Sussex County is situated on the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean at the state’s southernmost point. It covers 938 square miles, making it the largest geographical county in the state. The “First Town in the First State” is also located here. In 1631, the town of Lewes was founded as the state’s first settlement, and Delaware was the first state to ratify the United States Constitution.
