How to get a Real Estate License in Iowa

In Iowa, you must be 18 years old and undergo a criminal background check.  You must complete a 60-hour computer or classroom as well as the following three classroom courses:
  • Buying practices (12 hours)
  • Listing practices (12 hours)
  • Developing professionalism and ethical practices (12 hours)

Exam

The Iowa real estate exam consists of 120 questions to be completed in 180 minutes. The first section will test your knowledge of national real estate subjects, such as:
  • Property ownership
  • Land use controls
  • Valuation
  • Financing
  • Principles of agency
  • Property condition and disclosures
  • Contracts
  • Transfer of title
  • Practice of real estate
  • Calculations
  • Specialty areas
The second section will test your knowledge of state real estate subjects, such as:

  • Education
  • Trust accounts
  • Contracts
  • Agency
  • Prop disclosure requirements
