    How to get a Real Estate License in Maine

    In Maine you must be 18 years old and a high school graduate.  You also must complete 55 hours of pre-licensing training, pass the state real estate exam, and submit to a background check.


    The exam consists of 120 questions that must be completed within 240 minutes. The first exam section covers general real estate topics, such as:
    • Real property characteristics
    • Forms of ownership
    • Property valuation
    • Real estate contracts
    • Real estate practice
    • Financing and settlement
    • Math calculations
    The second exam section covers state real estate topic such as:
    • Maine real estate commission
    • Maine laws governing licensees
    • Law of agency
    • Maine principles and practices
    • Land use
