How to get a Real Estate License in Virginia

Real estate license applicants in Virginia must be 18 years old, a high school graduate, submit to fingerprinting, and disclose any misdemeanor or felony convictions during their lifetime. In addition applicants must complete 60 hours of pre-licensing education, pass the Virginia real estate exam and complete 30 hours of post-licensing education.

Exam

The exam consists of 120 questions that must be completed within 150 minutes.  The first section of the exam includes questions on the following national real estate topics:
  • Property ownership
  • Land use controls
  • Valuation
  • Financing
  • Principles of agency
  • Property condition
  • Contracts
  • Transfer of title
  • Practice of real estate
  • Calculations
  • Specialty areas
The second exam section includes questions on the following state topics:
  • Licensing
  • Escrow accounts
  • Disclosure
  • Agency definitions and relationships
  • Fair housing
  • Specific acts pertaining to real estate practice
Fees Exam fee: $60 License fee: $150
