    How to get a Real Estate License in Virginia

    Real estate license applicants in Virginia must be 18 years old, a high school graduate, submit to fingerprinting, and disclose any misdemeanor or felony convictions during their lifetime.In addition applicants must complete 60 hours of pre-licensing education, pass the Virginia real estate exam and complete 30 hours of post-licensing education.


    The exam consists of 120 questions that must be completed within 150 minutes.  The first section of the exam includes questions on the following national real estate topics:
    • Property ownership
    • Land use controls
    • Valuation
    • Financing
    • Principles of agency
    • Property condition
    • Contracts
    • Transfer of title
    • Practice of real estate
    • Calculations
    • Specialty areas
    The second exam section includes questions on the following state topics:
    • Licensing
    • Escrow accounts
    • Disclosure
    • Agency definitions and relationships
    • Fair housing
    • Specific acts pertaining to real estate practice
